Tuesday 8th September 2015 - Mule Gimmer Shearlings
Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their annual Sale of 5,270 Breeding Sheep, including a Prize show for Mule Gimmer Shearlings and Mule 2 Shear Ewes. A huge thank you goes to Carr’s Billington Agriculture & Bluefin for generously sponsoring the show.
The pre-sale show was professionally judged by Mr RWV MacIntosh, Manor Farm, Dorset.
The Champion pen of 10 Mule Shearlings, who received the John Mounsey Memorial Trophy was awarded to Mr J Ackerley, Milton Mains, this pen of sheep later realised £155 per head, selling to Messrs AC Simpson & Son, Whiton Le Wear, Bishop Aukland.
The Mule 2 shear show also attracted some outstanding pens of 15, with Messrs J
Dixon & Son, Lesson Hall being awarded first prize rosette and the John
Dickinson, High House Memorial Trophy. These sheep later sold for £150 to the
judge Mr MacIntosh, Manor Farm, Dorset.
Top Mule price on the day was £168, this was paid for a pen of ten shearlings from
Messrs G Sowerby, Terry’s Farm, bought by the days judge Mr MacIntosh. This price
was also paid for the second placed pen of 15 Mule 2 shears from Messrs W & R
Lawson, Stubbsgill, bought by Messrs A & ED Booth. Lane Ends, Giggleswick.
