Cast Sheep

Once again, another strong entry of ewes forward, with 564 being sold under the hammer.  Lean ewes and feeding ewes in very strong demand, with strong and meated ewes good to sell, but not looking as dear compared to the leaner types. Cast rams a sharper trade than seen for some time at J36, with more interest in them selling to a top of £99 for a Blue Texel from C Hutchings of Hazel Head Farm,  with Leicester rams from G Wightman of The Height.  Better types of ewes easily selling into the eighties, topping at £89 from PW & D Swindlehurst of Tranthwaite Hall.  Not as good show of mule ewes as the previous week, with mule ewes topping at £63 from David Moorhouse of High House.  Other straight mules selling sixty pounds plus.  Strong Rough Fell ewes easily selling in the fifties with a powerful pen of Swaledale ewes selling to £49 from RS Harker & Son of Grayrigg Hall.  Plenty of strong and fit Swaledale ewes selling £38 plus.  Leaner types and straight types easily selling £27 to £32.
