Once again a large show of 462 cast cows, stock bulls, and prime cattle were forward.

Cast Cows, Bulls & OTM Cattle: A mixed show of 330 cows and 20 stock bulls were presented to a larger ring side of buyers with all classes being slightly dearer than last week. Messrs Smith-Jackson of Hightown run of cows topped at 185.5ppk for a Limousin cross purchased by Mr Sean McGimpsey. Messrs Carruthers of Glenzierfoot run of cows topped at 180.5ppk for a Limousin cross purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Bainbridge of Line Side, Barnard Castle sold a Limousin cross cow for 179.5ppk and was also purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Sisterson of Newlands, Consett sold a Charolais cow for 165.5ppk and again was purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick.  Messrs Suddes & Sons of South Farm ,Durham run of cows topped at 165.5ppk and was purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis. Messrs Jenkinson of Clifton Moor run of Limousin cows topped at 1060kg, 139.5ppk or £1478 and was purchased also by Mr Alan Jarvis. Messrs Mathers of Beech Bank sold the top overall priced Charolais cow, which sold to 878kg, 157.5ppk or £1382 and was purchased by Woolley Bros. Messrs Wilson of Howfield Farm sold the top priced Holstein cross to 144.5ppk and was purchased by Mr Les Fell. Messrs Kerr of Justinlees run of Holstein cross cows sold to a top price of 850kg, 112.5ppk or £956 and was purchased by Woolley Bros.

A larger entry of stock bulls were forward, with all quality lots being dearer on the week. Messrs Dixon & Son of Lesson Hall, Wigton sold an outstanding British Blue bull which sold to 1232kg, 151.5ppk or £1866 and was purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Sowerby & Sons of Sycamore Rise sold the top overall priced Limousin stock bull which weighted 1128kg, and sold to £1686 and was purchased by Cleveland Meats. Messrs Hall of Ainstable Hall sold a run of British Blue cross bulls which topped at 175.5ppk and 174.5ppk and were purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick and Cleveland Meats, his top overall priced bull sold to £1544, 165.5ppk and scaled 933kg, selling to Mr Les Fell.

Prime Bulls:  A smaller entry of 72 prime bulls forward whereby all classes were easier sold on the week. Top overall was a Limousin cross from M/s Jardine, The Yett, Lockerbie achieving £1534.56. M/s Sisson, Kelbarrow, Penrith sold another to £1529.28 and M/s Little, Greenhill, Wigton sold to £1517.78 again for a Limousin cross. Top pence per kilo of 222.5p was achieved by M/s Mitchinson, Beckstones Farm, Carlisle.

Black and White bulls peaked at £1077.90 for a Holstein Friesian from Bowness Farm, Threapland Lees, Wigton and top pence per kilo of 162.5p was achieved by M/s Austin, Upper Portrack, Dumfries with yet another Holstein Friesian.

Prime Cattle: A much larger entry of 60 prime steers and heifers forward and sold slightly easier on the week. The top overall animal was a British Blue cross steer from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse Farm, Carlisle selling to £1,610.20 and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold a Limousin steer to £1,579.76. Heifers sold to £1453.01 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Hewitson, Shatton Lodge, Cockermouth.

Top overall pence per kilo was for a British Blue cross steer from Fiona Harrison, Thurstonfield, Carlisle gaining 224.5p and purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick, Lockerbie.

A smaller show of 2,453 prime lambs were forward at Carlisle with averages rising 10p on the week to level at 150ppk.

Topping the sale at £83.80 were a tremendous pair of Texel cross lambs from M/s Scott, Mealrigg which sold to Mr R Skelton. A top of 200ppk was recorded for a pen of six Dutch Texel lambs from M/s Wigham of Hargill House which sold to Mr Andrew Dawson.
