Leading farm prices from Kirkby Stephen Auction Mart

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, where an entry of 2,198 sheep were forward consisting of 1,811 prime hoggs and 393 Cast ewes and rams.

Topping the sale at £120 was a Beltex cross hogg from Messrs Williamson, Littleburn Farm, Hamsterley which was bought by Vivers Scotlamb Ltd.

Messrs Williamson also topped at 278.40p/kg for a pen of three Beltex cross hoggs which were also purchased by Vivers Scotlamb Ltd.

Swaledale hoggs topped at £79.80 for a pen of 24 from Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, Lunedale.

Once again the best three quarter bred continental hoggs were in extreme demand, with the £100 mark being exceed on 29 occasions.

A fantastic trade prevailed for all classes and weights of prime hoggs, with most being upwards of 10/kg (£4 - £5) dearer. Many more could have been sold at Kirkby Stephen to a strong demand from a great ringside of 14 active buyers!!
