Students capture nature's changes

THE changing faces of a South Lakeland woodland nature reserve are being reflected in a special exhibition at Holker Hall, near Cartmel, this summer.

The unique event is in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Roudsea Woods at Haverthwaite and consists of photographs taken by students on the wildlife photography degree course run by Blackpool and the Fylde College.

English Nature's site manager in South Cumbria, Rob Petley-Jones, set the students the challenge of capturing the spirit of wilderness of the magnificent nature reserve.

Mr Petley-Jones said: "I invited the students to capture the view of the wilderness quality of this wonderful place in a series of photographs and I am absolutely delighted with the results. The students have managed to practice some really intuitive interpretation of the concept of wilderness and I am seeing Roudsea Wood in a totally new way as a result."

English Nature's area manager for Cumbria Des O'Halloran said: "For Lady Cavendish to offer facilities at Holker Hall for the exhibition is an excellent way to mark the Golden Jubilee of this wonderful nature reserve."

The photo exhibition is on display at the Burlington Room at Holker Hall until mid September.
