A MEETING over whether organic farming is in a state of crisis will be hosted by the Westmorland Agricultural Society at Lane Farm, Crooklands, on Wednesday, March 7.
It comes as the amount of organic food bought by consumers has fallen and some farmers have come out of organic production because they can no longer make it pay.
Following the AGM of Cumbria Organics, Helen Browning, director of the Soil Association, will present the association’s new strategy towards 2020. The meeting will also be addressed by Steve Clarkson, Chief Inspector of Organic Farmers and Growers.
