To mark the 200th anniversary of The Westmorland Gazette in 2018, we are publishing a photograph from our archives on our website every day this year.
Today's photograph shows Alfred Bennett, of Pond Side Farm, Skelsmergh, with his six-year-old sheepdog Nell, who caught 43 rats in quick succession in 1950.
Mr Bennett's 12-year-old son Lawrence is pictured with his father and the rats, which were strung on a line.
