To mark the 200th anniversary of The Westmorland Gazette in 2018, we are publishing a photograph from our archives on our website every day this year.
Today's photograph shows the Hawkshead May Queen Festival in June 1950.
Owing to bad weather on its scheduled Saturday the festival had to be held in the town hall.
Pictured is that year's Queen, Enid Wilson, after she had been crowned by retiring Queen Margaret Farrer.
