The ticket distribution of meat worked with great smoothness in Kendal last week when it was upon its trial, and though it put a great deal of extra work upon the butchers it relieved the public of anxiety concerning supplies.
50 YEARS AGO - 1968
After living on Holme Island, off Grange-over-Sands, for 17 years, Mrs Molly Davy has decided to leave. As a result the estate is to be offered for sale by public auction at Grange on Tuesday.
A Regency-style residence is set on the island of 10 acres, with only a narrow but well-maintained causeway, connecting it to the mainland.
25 YEARS AGO - 1993
A £3 million scheme to turn the redundant Westmorland County Hospital, at the top of Captain French Lane, Kendal, into a private hospital, nursing home and houses will be put before South Lakeland planners in the next few weeks.
The 2.8 acre site could soon hold a 14-bed private hospital, a 45-bed nursing home and up to 38 low cost starter homes for local people.
