100 YEARS AGO - 1918
In the Endmoor Tennis Court on Saturday evening a party of young ladies, fifteen in number, attired in red dresses with white aprons and bonnets, gave a musical entertainment before a large audience. The programme included many attractive items well performed and encores were numerous.
50 YEARS AGO - 1968
New Bank Yard, which for the past three years Kendal Civic Society has been endeavouring to renovate and preserve as an example of a typical ancient Kendal yard is, after all, to be demolished and the site used as a temporary car park. This was decided by a 13-7 vote of Kendal Town Council.
25 YEARS AGO - 1993
Imposing a 10mph speed limit on Windermere could cost the local economy up to £5.3m, according to latest estimates. Research commissioned by the Lake District Planning Board, the body behind the controversial proposal, also suggests 210 jobs could be lost.
