Will 'Bownessie' be found in Windermere?

A SECOND investigation is being planned to find Windermere’s legendary monster after video evidence previously recorded “something big”.

A team of experts, led by Dean Maynard, claimed to have filmed their best ever video evidence of ‘Bownessie’ during their first attempt.

The evidence featured on Sky News, which has prompted the team to investigate the lake again.

The original footage and other highlights will feature on the ITV show ‘The Lakes’ on March 1, with the team’s efforts starting five days afterwards.

“We all firmly believe that something very big is in Windermere,” said Mr Maynard. “What is it? Well, we are hoping to find that out.”

'a bit of harmless fun' or a blatant attempt at free advertising for interested parties? Can we please drop this ridiculous notion before the Gazette becomes an advertising arm of a certain tv website.
(I do know what I am talking about, I have spent a lifetime living and working on Windermere)

I agree 100% with what you say. A waste of column inches.

'My' certain TV website only found out about this latest search via putting out a Google alert on the word Bownessie and was not informed about it.

Thanks for bringing attention to Lakes TV though - if that's the one you meant - and I'm sure ITV - who've probably actually arranged this search on the back of a successful fly on the wall series on 'The Lakes', will be more than grateful also.

If asked, Lakes TV will be there to film the results of any search and will remain open-minded about any footage generated. This says more about other parties than it does Lakes TV, who just happened to get footage of something that couldn't immediately be explained.

Best wishes

John McKeown

Living on Lake Windermere all your life obviously and immediately guarantees one as an expert in these matters Calanso. The fact that you have taken time firstly to read the article shows that you have some certain interest, and secondly by adding comments plus or minus adds to column inches.
As I’m aware the main Hotelier featured in the articles has more than enough business to be going on with for many years to come. The certain photographer and his photo’s no longer needs the advertising space as he no longer makes his livelihood in this area. As for Dean Midas the celebs favourite Psychic, I think with his X factor, American Idol and other high profile media work has bigger fish to fry please excuse the witticism.
Personally I do find the story interesting and intriguing what will come of it, is anyone’s guess, let’s read the column inches for that. If nothing comes of the new search and at best makes Joe public romance when purchasing a ticket for the Lake cruise tour then perhaps it’s poetic.

I would not be so crass as to name lakes tv in my comment, however if you are in such dire straits as to rely on any free advertising, even negative comments, then so be it.
The many thousands of visitors who come to the lake district do so for the amazing natural beauty of the area, tacky marketing ploys are not helpful nor necessary. The Lakes programme on itv shows the best of the area, stupid 'bownessie' stories show the worst.
I would suggest anybody interested in bownessie visit www.dupedbyadvertisi
ng.com!

At a time when the county is experiencing such economic difficulty and the prospect of an aging demographic is upon us, the idea that there may be something in the lake is surely some much needed fun that could potentially attract more visitors.
If individuals or businesses chose to capitalise on this, that is good business sense and that is what will save the Lake District economy as time moves forward.

In answer to your strange retort back, exactly what evidence to you present to indicate sleazy ad campaigns. You are correct on one matter which is The Lakes programme does in fact highlight the very best in the area. It may come as news to you that they will be running a whole programme on Bownessie search, first week in March. But as a lifelong resident you’re already wired into what goes on in the Lakes. Thanks for the opportunity to plug this event hope that doesn’t amount to another sleazy ad.
I do suggest that you chill a little and enjoy what could be possibly a long lasting legend which serves absolutely no harm for the people of Lakeland or the economy.
Oh the website that you personally advertised does not exist...the irony of it.
