Holme woman raises funds for pancreatic cancer

A HOLME woman who was inspired by the story of Kate Hardcastle losing her mother and brother to pancreatic cancer is raising money to help combat the disease.

Ms Hardcastle, of Bolton-le-Sands, started a 97-mile walk on her brother’s birthday, February 20, to represent the 97 per cent of people who die from pancreatic cancer.

She aims to finish the Morecambe to Cleveland walk on March 2, which was her mother’s birthday.

Diana Brown, an independent consultant for kitchen equipment seller Pampered Chef, decided she wanted to help raise money to help fight the disease after reading Ms Hardcastle’s story in the Westmorland Gazette.

“I rang her when I read the article in the paper,” Mrs Brown said.

“It’s a form of cancer which I had never heard of. I was touched personally by her just saying what she was doing to raise awareness.”

As part of her fundraising effort, Mrs Brown is organising a Pampered Chef Cooking Show on March 24 in Holme, where 15 per cent of all proceeds will go to Pancreatic Cancer UK.
