AN ACTION group that first fought to defend land in Kendal from housing developers 12 years ago is re-forming following a new proposal for extra homes on the same site.
The Kentrigg West Action Group (KWAG) helped protect the farmland between Burneside Road and Hallgarth at a public planning inquiry in 1996 - successfully reducing the size of the Briery Meadows development from 300 to 170 dwellings.
But a new threat is now being posed to the remaining 7.5 hectares, known as Sparrowmire, outlined as suitable for a further 225 homes in South Lakeland District Council's recently-published draft Local Development Framework (LDF).
