KENDAL residents can now fully enjoy riding along the route of the town's old canal following the completion of resurfacing work on a popular cycle path.

The work, which concentrated on a 1,500-metre stretch of the Lancaster Canal towpath between Burton Road and Canal head, is part of a £100,0000 scheme approved by Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet last year.

“I’m delighted that the people of Kendal can now enjoy a clean and enjoyable cycle or walk along the old canal route without getting mucky when it rains,” said Coun Geoff Cook, chair of CCC’s local committee for South Lakeland.

“The resurfaced route will link into the Kendal Transport Plan which we hope will encourage people to use alternatives to their vehicles. It will also tie in with the continuing work on the riverside route for cyclists and pedestrians.”
