NEIGHBOURHOOD police officers in South Lakes are engaging with the Polish community by publicising their contact details and key messages in a Polish-language poster campaign.
The district's community team says it is continually looking for new ways to engage with people who live and work in the South Lakes. To reach out to the Polish community in particular, members of the team have produced a Polish version of their community liaison poster, to run alongside their existing English-language posters.
The posters were translated with the assistance from The Cumbria-multi Cultural Service based at Barrow.
PC David Buxton, community officer for Ambleside, said: "The Polish poster will be displayed alongside existing posters throughout the South Lakes, with the aim of reaching out to the growing Polish community in the area by introducing them to the names of their local officers and the policing priorities in their neighbourhood.
"We hope that it will enable our community officers to build new contacts in the Polish community, make us more accessible and reinforce our presence to help increase confidence and offer reassurance to everyone who lives and works in the South Lakes."
To get in touch with the South Lakes community team, call 0845 33 00 247 or visit the police stations in Ambleside on Rydal Road or Windermere on Lake Road.
TAX offices in Kendal, as well as those in Lancaster, Barrow and Penrith, are to close following an announcement made by HM Revenue and Customs.
Hi there, I hope you are all enjoying the spell of fine weather that we are having at the moment!
This winter walk takes you through fine deciduous woodland in the valley of the River Calder, onto slopes above the hurrying river. Near Thornholme, an isolated farmhouse, you cross by footbridges, first the river and then a beck, Worm Gill.
Although the recession has, “technically,” only just begun, most businesses have been noticing a slowdown in the economy for months. A few have been experiencing it for more than a year!
