POLICE in Windermere and Staveley will concentrate on anti social hot spots over Easter as part of a drive to reduce youth crime.
Statistics provided by Sergeant Mark Lyon-Maris at a meeting of Windermere and Staveley District Neighbourhood Forum showed a significant drop in anti social behaviour between January 07 and January 08.
PCSO Sarah Blacow updated the forum on her work at Lakes School. PCSO Blacow holds a fortnightly surgery at the school providing young people with the opportunity to ask questions anonymously about local policing. She said the most frequent questions from children asked why groups of young people were moved on and taken home by police.
The Police, Methodist Church, Young Cumbria and Connexions are working together on a trial youth club scheme that is hoped to become a regular Thursday night event.
Sergeant Lyon-Maris also said Head-cams worn by police dealing with anti social behaviour were proving a good deterrent.
