Help Peter Rabbit in the fight against disease

WALKERS are being urged to lace up their boots and do their bit to help find a cure for a life-threatening disease.

The Beatrix Potter Great Strides walk takes place around Windermere on Sunday, May 11, as part of a worldwide campaign to help "see off" Cystic Fibrosis, the most common life-threatening inherited disease, which has an average life expectancy of 31.

The seven-mile circular walk, organised by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, begins at 11am from Harrow Slack car park on the eastern side of the lake, and takes in magnificent views at Claife Heights of the Coniston Range and Langdales.

And Peter Rabbit himself will be there to hand out goody bags for under 1s, and there will be quiz sheets along the way, with free admission for all walkers to Beatrix Potter's gardens.

Pat Kilpatrick, Cumbria's regional fundraising manager for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: "By taking part in our walks, or by organising one of your own, you ar joining hundreds of people taking steps to cure Cystic Fibrosis.

"Our research, which is almost entirely funded by charitable donations, is making encouraging progress. Each and every step, no matter how small, brings us closer to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis."
