The search is on to find a public building in the Keswick area which needs a bit of warming up in an environmentally sound way! This unique project will work towards improving and restoring one of the Lake District's most popular lakes.
As part of the Lost in the Woods project, Bassenthwaite Reflections Project is looking for a school, community function venue or a public building to house a special wood-burning fuel system which will operate using low grade wood direct from local woodlands.
Project Officer Amanda Hancock said the chosen building will also need to act as a venue for an exhibition about the whole history and heritage of wood burning as a fuel.
"I think this will be a really exciting, eye-opening and economic project for people to be involved in. I'm sure there must be a suitable venue out there close to Keswick," Amanda added.
As one of the 22 Heritage Lottery funded Bassenthwaite Reflections projects, the aim is to encourage people to consider alternative, suitable forms of heating.
By demonstrating this new system, using low grade wood, it's hoped to show that the project not only helps save money, but will help improve the environment too.
Bassenthwaite Reflections want this wood-burning demonstration facility to heat a local building which has a community use, while also acting as an exhibition showing the history and heritage of wood as a fuel.
The system, which will be installed in the Keswick area, would have a public benefit and will be used for training and school visits and projects.
Anyone wanting more information on the project should contact Amanda Hancock on 017687 73204 or Amanda.hancock@environment-agency.gov.uk Bassenthwaite Reflections is a Heritage Lottery Fund backed programme of 22 Community projects designed to protect the lake and its surroundings.
