A NEW type of health clinic which could see hundreds of GP surgeries closed is not likely to be introduced in Cumbria, according to the county's health chiefs.
Although Cumbria Primary Care Trust is considering its options on polyclinics - a new model of health care which aims to provide several services under one roof and could mean the end of smaller doctors' surgeries - it has said the controversial new scheme is "unsuited to rural locations."
The multi-purpose centres are being trialled in London, where the Department of Health unveiled plans for around 150 of the so-called super clinics'.
