Family launch green campaigns online

COMPOSTS, cars and coats will be just some of the issues addressed as a Burton family of bike riders open an online door to their lives.
Cycle-mad family, Kirstie Pelling and Stuart Wickes, who have three children, are launching an Internet diary or blog to give people insight into the lives of an environmentally conscious family.
"It is all about a normal family trying to be green-minded, but not green-obsessed, and all of the trials and tribulations and good and bad things that it creates.
"For example trying to create a compost heap in the middle of a very small patio, cutting out the car for unnecessary journeys and wearing extra jumpers in winter to avoid heating the house," said Kirstie.
The couple, who have cycled as a family across New Zealand, recently launched their Wheely Good Communities scheme with the help of a £900 start-up grant from Lancaster City Council.
They are hoping to encourage people in local villages, like Borwick, Holme, Yealand and Priest Hutton, to use their bikes instead of their cars before National Cycling Week on June 16.
The scheme allows locals to take advantage of drop-in bike check ups, a family cycling equipment loan scheme, a bike buddy and the chance to earn nationally recognised cycling skills.
