CUMBRIANS are being urged to join their local libraries and "get reading".
Cumbria County Council has launched an initiative to encourage people to use libraries more as part of the National Year of Reading.
As an encouragement, new members are being offered free copies of The Ultimate Book Guide or a Quick Read title.
And library staff will be on hand at branches to advise on reading opportunities, events and projects.
Alan Welton, head of Library Services in Cumbria, said: "Libraries are free, interesting and fun places to visit. They are about much more than borrowing books. There's a host of services on offer at libraries."
Campaigns and activities are being organised throughout the National Year of Reading, with the aim of inspiring everyone to read more. There will be a special focus on reluctant readers, those with low confidence and boys and their fathers.
