David Hayes is the newly appointed Government Relations Director at West Lakes Renaissance, joining them from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, where he was Director of Special Projects.

David's role will be to help develop The Cumbria Partners growing interface with Government, in implementing the Britain's Energy Coast programme. West Lakes Renaissance - the urban regeneration company for Furness and West Cumbria - is leading on the delivery of the programme.

Jamie Reed MP, Chairman of the West Cumbria Partners, said: "We are delighted that David is joining West Lakes Renaissance. He has wide experience of Government and the private sector, and is well known in the Cumbrian community for his work in the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and helping set it up in West Cumbria."

Britain's Energy Coast Masterplan is a £2 billion package of regeneration projects that builds on the area's globally important expertise and skills in nuclear and diversifies into other innovative energy technologies, such as tidal, off shore wind and microgeneration.

Projects range from attracting a new generation of nuclear power reactors to the Sellafield site and developing the proposed National Nuclear Laboratory and Energus (formerly the Nuclear Academy) training facilities to a new acute hospital and significant investment in transport links, leisure, culture and sporting facilities. In total the Masterplan will create 16,000 jobs and boost Cumbria's economy by £800 million.
