A CASINO is not on the cards for South Lakeland.
The Government has permitted the building of 17 new casinos in England and Wales under the Gambling Act 2005 and invited councils to express an interest in having one on their patch.
Views on a casino in the district were mixed among members, with some feeling there was no call and others believing that it could prove a money-spinner through fees.
The cost to the council of implementing the act is set to reach £32,000 although it is not yet known how much it would recoup in fees.
