A WHOLE range of tempting local produce filled the streets of Kirkby Lonsdale for the first of a new monthly event that could boost trade in the town.

The Lune Valley location welcomed 13 local suppliers to its new Farmers' Market on Thursday (May 1), and despite torrential rain shoppers turned out in force too.

Stewart Lambert, of nearby Kitridding Farm Shop, helped to organise the event and said, in time, it could transform the town's trade.

"The normal market has been dead in Kirkby Lonsdale for so long and it is going to take a while to turn that around. But with the addition of the Farmers Market once a month we think we can eventually get the shoppers back. That will be a good thing for Kirkby's shops and businesses too," he said.

The Farmers' Market will take place on the first Thursday of each month from 9am-2.30pm.
