CUMBRIA Police came under fire for "letting down" a South Lakeland town tonight (Wednesday).
The accusation was made by the vice chairman of Kirkby Lonsdale T own Council at its monthly meeting, where members reported problems with contacting their local police representative over recent weeks.
"The town is being let down by the policing level at the moment," said coun Allan Muirhead.
"They (the police) talk about liaison and cooperation but we are here on a monthly basis and the public is here on a monthly basis yet they are not. It isn't rocket science to come and listen along with the public."
The criticism came despite the meeting hearing earlier from a WPC hired as a dedicated problem-solver for the Ulverston area. WPC Simone Cookson told the meeting her service had proved such a success in the Furness town that it was being extended and that over coming weeks she would be "getting to know Kirkby Lonsdale" and building up relationships with residents to help in the fight against crime.
The town council welcomed the move.
