RIBBLE Valley’s Tory MP and borough council have vowed to fight plans to close police station front desks including Clitheroe.
Lancashire Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw this week announced plans to close 10 public counters across the county to save cash.
They include Darwen, Clitheroe, Waterfoot, Colne and Barnoldswick.
The borough’s policy and finance committee passed a motion vowing to fight to reverse the proposal to close the front desk at Clitheroe Police Station the last remaining in the Ribble Valley.
Cllr Paul Elms, council deputy leader and vice-chairman of the Lancashire Police and Crime panel, said: “This is just not acceptable.”
MP Nigel Evans, who has put down a Parliamentary Question to Home Secretary Amber Rudd on the issue, said: “This is a disgrace. Rural areas are being punished and thousands of residents will have no one-stop-shop in our largest towns.”
Cllr Elms added: “The residents of the Ribble Valley pay their police precept, just like everyone else .We are seeing the dismantling of policing in the rural areas, and particularly in the Ribble Valley."
