CHANGES to a scheme to provide small grants to Lancashire organisations to help young people are to be considered by senior councillors.

County Hall officers want to revise the framework for giving the cash to ‘third sector’ charitable and voluntary groups from April next year.

The Young People’s Service Small Grants Scheme had £111,000 to give out in 2017/18.

On Thursday, the county's cabinet, chaired by Burnley-born authority leader Geoff Driver will be merged with a larger £1.3 million Local Initiative Fund from 2018/19.

A report said the two funds were a ‘direct duplication’ of the each other.

The meeting has also been recommended to approve a grant of £2,000 under the existing scheme to Clitheroe Youth Forum for an ‘outdoor activity project’.

This involves two, two day trips for total of 40 young people.

The report says bringing the two funds into a single scheme will eliminate duplication, provide a clear pathway for grant applications, prioritise vulnerable groups and ‘make more efficient and effective use of financial resource’
