SOME pupils are not making enough progress at an East Lancashire high school, inspectors said.

Longridge High School was rated 'requires improvement' following an Ofsted inspection.

The Preston Road school received the same overall grade as it did at a previous inspection two years ago.

Inspectors said the positive improvements made by leaders had not increased pupil progress in all year groups while the attainment of boys, middle-ability and disadvantaged pupils were below national averages last year.

However staff were ambitious for pupils and the school is improving, lead inspector Nell Banfield said.

Ms Banfield said: "The improvements in teaching have not helped pupils equally in both key stages to improve their learning over time.

"The progress of pupils in key stage four is not as fast as it is for pupils in key stage three.

"The quality of teaching is improving. However, some teaching does not challenge pupils to make good progress.

"The level of absence of pupils in Year 11 is not reducing as fast as the absence of pupils in other year groups."

She said the school had reduced the level of persistent absence of disadvantaged pupils in key stage three and pupils are well behaved.

The school was judged 'good' for the effectiveness of leadership and management and for personal development, behaviour and welfare.
