COUNTY Hall leader claims no property sales are at risk after construction giant Carillion goes under.

Construction firm Carillion has gone into administration leaving thousands of jobs under threat.

The Wolverhampton-based, which is the UK's second biggest construction company, has been struggling under nearly £900 million of debt and losing money on big contracts.

Talks to save the company between the firm, its contractors and government failed and the government will now have to provide funding to maintain the public services run by Carillion.

The future of the jobs of the 20,000 staff employed by the firm in Britain are now at 'risk'.

County Cllr Geoff Driver, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: "The council entered into a partnership with Carillion in 2013 for the north and east of the county, and they have assisted with advice over the disposal of some of the council's surplus property assets in these areas.

"Any ongoing property sales are not at risk from the recent news.

"The council has no other current contracts with Carillion."
