NEW jetties at Lancashire County Council's Tower Wood Outdoor Education Centre in the Lake District is complete.

Anchored pontoons have replaced the previous deteriorated timber construction piers for mooring boats.

Tower Wood, on the shores of Lake Windermere, provides outdoor adventure facilities for schools, youth groups, corporate groups, adults and families from across Lancashire

The new jetties. rise and fall as the depth of the lake changes, will enable water-based activities such as barrel-rafting, canoeing and sailing to continue to be offered at the centre.

Cllr Susie Charles, county council cabinet member for young people, said: "We're really proud of Tower Wood, and this work has been completed to make sure the quality we provide there remains high."

The work, which took eight weeks, cost £222,500. The new jetties are made of polyethylene.
