TWO students who have helped improve the lives of others at a North Lancashire secondary school have received a prestigious national award for their efforts.
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award has been awarded to Stephen Costello and Nikki Benson who are sixth formers at Carnforth High School.
The pair received their prize for improving the pastoral care for the school’s younger students while balancing their GCSE work.
As part of their work to improve facilities for Year 7 pupils they set up a ‘buddy scheme’ and ensured a social room was open every day at lunchtime for pupils to use as a drop-in facility to either have a chat and perhaps share a problem or just play chess and other board games.
During registration time, they would also visit registration groups to update form tutors or to feed back to individual children.
This is the third time the school has had pupils win the award, having previously secured it in 2002 and 2007.
