A pet dog died after saving its owners from their burning Heysham home.
The dog leaped onto a bed to wake its owners when a 'severe' fire took hold in the early hours of Saturday.
A 47-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, clambered to safety and called the fire brigade to the three-bedroomed house in Trumacar Lane at 3.52am.
But the scared animal died in the blaze, despite the efforts of fire-fighters to save it.
A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service says an investigation into the cause of the blaze, which started in the kitchen and spread through the open-plan rooms and into the hallway, is taking place.
