A NORTH Lancashire firm has been wound up following an Insolvency Service probe.
APD Leisure and Marketing Ltd, which had offices in Yealand Conyers and Heysham, was wound up in the High Court.
A spokesman for the Insolvency Service said: “The investigation directorate found that the company ‘cold called members of the public’ and invited them to collect a free holiday that they had ‘won’.
"But prior to receiving their award they had listened to a sales presentation for a holiday club operated by the company, costing up to £3,295.”
APD Leisure and Marketing sold almost 300 memberships from November 2008 and received almost £600,000, the spokesman said.
“However, the company’s own records were found to contain a discrepancy of more than £120,000 when compared to the bank and also to have failed to record details of more than 500 cheques which the director was unable to account for,” said the spokesman.
