LANCASTER Girls’ Grammar School student Isabel Wilkinson won a cookery contest for 11 to 16-year-olds.
Entrants in the Red Tractor beef and lamb ‘Make it with Mince Challenge’ had to cook on a £10 budget, submit their own original, nutritious and creative recipe using beef or lamb mince, plus a cooking plan.
Isabel was named regional winner for the North West after wowing judges with a dish of spicy stuffed aubergines, pomegra-nate dip and couscous.
TV chef and the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen host James Martin presented her with a touch screen media player, chef’s whites and £200 of kitchen vouchers for her school. He will now pick the overall national winner from five regional heats, with the winner invited to London to watch a live episode of the programme and, later, to enjoy a tour of prestigious restaurants.
