STUDENTS from Lancaster and Morecambe College put on their trainers to take part in a skipping event to raise awareness of healthy living.

The public services and sports students have been working together on new skipping techniques and learning about the importance of exercise and keeping their heart healthy. Lancaster and Morecambe College took part in the skipping challenge as part of the nation Jump Rope for Heart initiative, organised by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Nick Milner, deputy manager of the programme, said: “Preparing for the Jump Off has given our students a reason to get active, not to mention have lots of fun. The Jump Rope for Heart scheme helps us encourage healthy habits, while creating a more active ethos in the college. It’s a fantastic event for the college, staff and students.”

Since its launch in 1987, over 25,000 schools and colleges have registered to take part in the Jump Rope for Heart initiative. The event raised money to not only support the vital work of the nation’s heart charity, but also the participating schools and colleges, as they get to keep the skipping kit, which contains teaching resources worth more than £100.
