ALMOST 1,000 pieces of litter were collected from a stretch of North Lancashire beach as part of a clean-up operation.
A team of 16 volunteers from Barclays Cumbria Local Business Team cleaned and surveyed a section of beach known as Slag Tips along Sand Lane, Warton near the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s (MCS) Company Beach Clean.
The most common litter items recorded were drinks bottles, crisp and sweet wrappers, drinks cans, and polystyrene cups.
The MCS is now campaigning for signs to be put up near the beach to advise visitors not to drop litter.
