Cumbria County Council has urged to be cautious on the county's roads overnight and tomorrow morning as freezing conditions are expected.
All parts of the county are expected to experience sub-zero temperatures tonight with clear skies and temperatures expected to dip to -4 degrees centigrade in Pennine areas.
"Given the amount of lying water and run off from adjacent land, icy patches are expected," said a county council spokesman.
"Widespread frost is also forecast once road surface temperatures fall below 0 degrees (from 8pm tonight onwards).
"The county council's fleet of gritters have started a countywide pre-salt this afternoon from 4pm, with further patrols and gritting scheduled from 5am tomorrow morning.
"Drivers need to proceed with caution, especially in the morning."
