YEAR six pupils at Dent Primary School unveiled their animal-themed leaving presents on the last day of term.

For the third year running the outgoing pupils were tasked with a challenge for the final half term and with the help and guidance of Rosie James, a local artist and teaching assistant, the pupils designed and made bespoke gifts for the other pupils in the school.

Students created a huge willow nest, an owl, a red squirrel, a snake, some bees and some birds on a perch.

“It shows great creativity, commitment, confidence and teamwork and they have been a wonderful role model for the other pupils,” said headteacher Nicky Edwards.

Meanwhile, retiring class one teacher Kath Parkin said her final farewells to the school after a glittering 39 year career.

“She is quite simply a legend in the Dent and Sedbergh area as she is one of the most inspirational teachers,” said Ms Edwards.

“She has a fabulous relationship with the children and always finds the right balance between in the learning and fun!
