FEARS that entry numbers would be down at the Ingleton Horticultural Society Show were not borne out as organisers celebrated a successful 52nd year.
The mild winter and hot weather earlier in the summer had led to concerns over the impact on local gardens – but several new exhibitors ensured numbers continued to grow.
First-timers and familiar faces all impressed the judges, with regulars Hugh and Linda Redhead taking the Bownass Challenge Cup for most points in the show, while their all-round performance in the vegetable and flower classes also yielded quite a collection of trophies.
They shared the prize for most points in the vegetable section with local man, Dan Unsworth, who took a clutch of awards.
New exhibitor Janet Spencer, of Ingleton, also made ‘a good start’, according to organisers, while flower and domestic classes also attracted a high calibre of entries.
Before presenting the awards, chairman of the society Mr John Tennant, thanked the organisers, helpers, exhibitors and committee for their work over the last year.
