THE Royal Geographical Society and the North Craven Heritage Trust are joining forces to showcase the landscape and history of Settle and its surrounding countryside.

It is holding a special event next Saturday August 15, which will start with an introductory talk from 11am to noon at the Quaker Meeting House, in Kirkgate, followed by a circular six-mile guided walk, starting from the Market Place at 1pm.

Both the talk and walk will look at unusual features of the town and the formation, history and development of the surrounding landscape. They may be enjoyed together or as individual events.

Former Craven resident Dr Tony Stephens, who developed the route, will give context of the walk during the morning event while the walk itself will involve about 400 metres of climb, including some rough paths as well as spectacular scenery.

Hill walking footwear and clothing are essential. No dogs please.
