FIRE crews raced to a blaze in a cottage, believing the owners were trapped inside.
At 4pm yesterday (Thursday, February 18) crews from North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire rushed to Westside Cottage, in Newby, near Ingleton, and worked for half an hour to extinguish the fire.
Thankfully the homeowners were not at the scene, and their two pet cats managed to escape to safety.
But a spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue has revealed the extent of the damage.
"There is a dormer-bedroom in the loft space that has been completely destroyed," he said.
"It has burnt through the floorboards and there is water damage to the two floors below that."
The exact cause of the blaze is still being investigated by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
