A DOG with a wanderlust for the fells has put his owner through his paces as he em-‘barks’ on a summit scaling mission.

Two-year-old Tip, who hurtles up steep fellsides with owner Robert Blair in his wake, has now sat on top of 60 trig points in the Lake District, the Howgills and the Yorkshire Dales’.

Robert started taking his dog’s picture on fell summits for ‘a bit of fun’ – but after seeing how much border collie Tip enjoys himself he says he will continue to take him to trig points around the Lakes and Dales.

“I really enjoy walking so have always taken the dog with me but I thought it would be fun to get a picture of him on top of as many trig points as possible,” he said. “When he sees one now he jumps up to pose.”

The concrete pillars which mark the highest points on mountains can be tricky to climb according to Robert, who has had several near misses while trying to get Tip to pose.

Tip is now extremely fit and used to walking ten miles or more without tiring.

He goes out walking with Robert and his partner Alison most weekends or during the week – and each trig point they have reached so far is at more than 1,000ft high.

“Tip was photographed tackling his first trig point on Scout Scar, reaching the top with some assistance. It didn’t take long for him to get the hang of it so why stop there! He was supposed to be a working dog after all,” added Robert, 59..

“We gradually expanded his range and decided to keep us both out of trouble by setting a goal of all the trig points in the Lake District National Park during the summer.”

Tip is said to have scaled Helvellyn’s Striding Edge route with ease.
