INGLETON residents are being asked to come up with ‘viable’ new uses for the village’s middle school site.
Hundreds of locals have already supported the principle of using the buildings for the community, and now North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is asking for detailed suggestions.
The authority says uses must be self-funded because there are no council funds available. A survey of local residents attracted more than 300 responses in December, with most saying they would like to keep the buildings for community use. NYCC has offered the site for community use once the school closes in July.
The steering group running the consult-ation is now asking for local people to get involved with developing plans for the site, which would be associated with health, education, heritage and leisure.
Residents can contact Rosemary Hartley for health on 015242 42207, Tony Macaulay for education on 015242 42587 or 07724837010, and Helen Wilson for heritage and leisure on 015242 41863.
