Man killed in three-vehicle crash near Austwick named as priest

THE victim of a fatal crash on the A65 last week has been named as a priest from London.

Father Edward Haughton died when his car was in collision with a wagon and van near Austwick on Friday morning.

The accident happened at 10.05am, 200 metres south of the Austwick and Lawkland junction.

The 40-year-old, from Chiswick, London, was the only one hurt in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking witnesses to contact Traffic Constable Andrew Macleod of the Harrogate Road Policing Group on 0845-6060247.

Not at home when this happened (in settle) however called by my father who is, he told us that the accident took place right outside the house. If that is the case the accident is on the stretch of road beyond the 3rd austwick turn (coming from Kendal) and not as noted between the two turns... (actually three roads from A65 into austwick).

The last few vehicles (involved in the accident) have been moved from the site in the last few minutes.
The Honda (car) was torn apart, the van was damaged at the front and the lorry seemed to have very little damage.
The police and highways vehicles seem to be clearing the road now so I think the road will be open soon.

Heard about it on the Radio 2 traffic report, saying stay clear, traffic backed up to Kirkby Lonsdale
