A BENTHAM therapist is on a mission to improve the world's well being through crocheting.
Pauline Turner, who runs a clinic at Bentham’s Looking Well, believes taking up the traditional craft helps to build confidence and happiness.
Mrs Turner said she discovered crocheting as a form of therapy while teaching the craft in north Lancashire.
It inspired her to found the International School of Awareness 25 years ago, which now has students in Britain Sweden, America and Russia.
She has published 24 books, some of which have been translated into seven languages, selling thousands of copies around the world.
Her new book Why Do You Think You Are? aims to address the most fundamental questions of life and provide answers.
“I believe that peace for the whole world is possible but everyone has to start on themselves. I want to empower people,” she said.
It was through teaching people crochet, at Lancaster and Morecambe College, that she first realised she could help them find happiness.
She said the sewing skill brought out people’s 'seventh sense'- through relaxing their mind.
“It’s a sense that cannot lie; it's like your gut feeling,” said Mrs Turner.
“Through dealing with people in my workshops I discovered they all had some kind of fear that was affecting their confidence.”
