Body of a Settle man found

THE body of a 61-year-old man has been found in Settle after a search was launched by emergency services and rescue teams.

North Yorkshire Police were called to a house in the town at 3am yesterday (Sunday) by fire officers, who had attended the man’s home after a fire alarm was triggered by an oven ring that had been left on, with nobody at home.

The Cave and Rescue Organisation and a helicopter from RAF Kinloss were mobilised to assist with the search and the missing man was located on the train line near Settle Railway Station at around 10am yesterday.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

An investigation into the death is being conducted by British Transport Police.
