Burglars raided seven homes in Ingleton on Sunday night while the occupants slept upstairs in bed.
Thieves broke into two houses in The Square and also targeted homes in Bank Hall Close, Laburnum Cottages, Church Street, Bridge Mews and New Road.
Police are now appealing for any information, however “seemingly insignificant” in their hunt for the burglars.
In most of the raids, the thieves escaped with handbags and wallets, cash and mobile phones.
The biggest haul was from Laburnum Cottages where a mini DVD player, a digital camera and laptop computer, together worth £900, were stolen.
Sgt Angela Moorhouse, of Ingleton Police Station, said: “Becoming the victim of a burglary is always a traumatic experience.
“It’s bad enough finding that someone has been in your home, but to discover they’ve had the audacity to enter when you’re upstairs asleep makes it even worse.
“I would ask anyone who was disturbed by people or vehicles acting suspiciously in the village in the early hours of Monday morning to contact me.
“Don’t worry if you think your information is too trivial, even the smallest item could help.
“My team and I are determined to track down the people responsible for these burglaries and bring them to justice as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should contact the police on 0845 6060 247 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
