THE clock was turned back to the 1940s when Ingleton staged its sixth Operation Homeguard weekend.
Organisers said there was a record turnout, with residents and visitors enjoying a weekend of entertainment in glorious sunshine.
“It was fabulous,” said organiser Elaine Ward. “It was very busy this year and a lot of new people came along.”
Highlights included a Battle of Britain Spitfire flypast and a display of 1940s fire engines at Ingleton Waterfalls.
The celebrations got under way with a 1940s disco with Major Swing, who provided music throughout the weekend.
There was also a military parade, led by the City of Bradford Pipe Band, which then went to Ingleborough care home to entertain the residents.
“We do try to make it a community event,” said Elaine. “There is something for everyone.”
Other festivities included a re-enactment of the liberation of a German-occupied French market square by Allied Forces and dance displays from the Helen Howard School of Dance, Ingleton Middle School and the local Ovaltineys tap class.
“There was a really happy atmosphere, with everyone dancing and singing,” said Elaine.
