A SCHOOL earmarked for closure has won a major award after pupils created a concept so strong it is already being adopted by national organisations.

Children from Ingleton Middle School fought off competition from across the country to land first prize in the Solutions for the Planet awards at Westminster.

A group of five children won with their Fact Fashion concept, an idea to sell items of clothing containing key facts on sustainable development issues.

The team of Jeanneil Modar, James Lea, Evie Henshaw, Charlotte Green and Rosemarie Jacquemain created a series of t-shirts incorporating stark facts such as ‘Every two minutes someone loses their home’ – with all profits going to an associated charity.

They presented the idea to ministers and business leaders at the Houses of Parliament, and the concept was endorsed Rosemarie’s proud mum, Hazel Jacque-main, said: “They blew the judges away with their idea.”
