The pillion has no control over the bike movements and the rider was overtaking - the idea of overtaking is to get passed the obstruction as quickly as you can and that almost by necessity involves a turn of speed. If the driver of the turning vehicle didn't want to hurt or kill the 4wk old baby, then perhaps good observations (including rearward) would have prudent prior to making a directional change. The speed is almost irrelevant here, the onus of a safe driver is to NOT move into the path of another moving vehicle. With the help of the highway code and a mirror, this collision would have been avoided. Suppose you've never done anything naughty on the roads, have you? It reads as though you wanted the injuries etc. You're very hateful, please send me your name and address, I'd love to discuss this matter personally.
Hopefully these 2 bikers will think again next time they are out thrill seeking on OUR roads. The speed limit where this took place is 40MPH not 60-70MPH!! To quote one witness "they took off from the lights like a bat out of hell"
Maybe they would also like to think about how close they came to hurting/killing the 4 week old baby in the back of the car.

fedupwithBikers wrote:Your roads? How does that work exactly - do you know for a fact that the bike wasn't taxed and therefore illegally on the road? You weren't there, so have no idea about the circumstances of the accident, however you seem comfortable apportioning 100% of the blame onto the rider. Your username is more than enough to tell me everything I need to know about you. Narrow minded and unpleasant..

Stupid of me to attempt to offer a balanced and reasonable response, when you already know everything you need to know about road safety.
So they should not have rode so recklessly then. Be honest, how many times have you seen a motorbike going too fast, too dangerously or too close to other vehicles. they do not have a god given right to overtake, weave through slow moving traffic or generally do whatever they please. Just a few days ago I drove around a blind corner with stationary traffic on the other side only to be confronted by a motorbike coming down my side of the road, had I not slammed my brakes on we would have collided. Would that have been my fault? was he one of the supposed minority? No, he was just your usual biker who thinks he can do what he **** well wants.

How many drivers do you see on the phone while moving? How many car drivers tail-gate you? Sit up, take notice - more bikers behave on the road than car drivers because it takes far more concentration to safely navigate the roads. Okay, some don't safely navigate the roads but the same can be said for car drivers, bus drivers and the like. Just watch Road Wars or something.
Stop overtaking on solid white lines. Stop tailgating cars. Stop breaking the speed limit. Stop parking on pavements. Stop bleating on about how its the cars that are at fault. Stop assuming you can do what you **** well like. Stop all that and I might have some sympathy.

I was there, although I did not see it happen. I heard it and was at the scene within 2 minutes. i also talked to an eye witness. It not very nice seeing a young mother covered in blood, clutching a very young baby.
I also did not say the bike was illegally on the road. but was being ridden in the usual RECKLESS manner.
I refer to OUR roads as im local and we have to put up with this every weekend when the sun is out, hoards of biking idiots terrorising our roads.
Grow up, if you want to race your "NINJA 10,000" race bike, find a bloody race track and dont do it on OUR roads.
